12/07/09 Hills Duathlon Series, Round 2

HERT womens completed a 100% podium finish rate at round two with Caroline Sweeney taking overall honours from Sally Taggart, both winning their age group. Kenin Minett finished well inside the top 10 with a sixth overall. Results

  

05/07/09 Gold Coast Running Festival

A strong turnout of 22 runners from HERT made the trip to the Gold Coast and many came home with new PB's on the flat course which hosted perfect conditions on the day. Dean Bell pulled the largest PB improving 12 minutes on his Half Marathon time. Jenelle Weatherstone was a first time finisher in the marathon with 3:26:47 and Caroline Sweeney cracking the 40min barrier in the 10km. Results

  

14/06/09 Sydney Duathlon Series - 4 winners

HERT claimed four categories at Round One of the Sydney Duathlon series at Parramatta Park. Tom Hurley won 18-24, Caroline Swweney 30-34, Sally Taggart 40-44 and Cathy Verry 55-59. For Hurley it was a see saw affair leading the opneing run, losing minutes on the bike from the overall lead and posting the fastest second run to reclaim the age group and climb back to 12th position overall. 14/06/09 Tara Prowse, 6th at IM UK 70.3

Backing up from 5th place and racing her 3rd half ironman in 4 weeks, Prowse had some fatigue in the legs and managed to back up with another solid days racing to claim 6th position. The neo pro can now take some time to recover, let th knee injury repair and resume a normalised training regime in preparation for IM Belgium 70.3 in August before heading home for Yeppoon HIM.

  

14/06/09 Minimos Marathon

Vlad Shatorv continued his improvement in form for the Gold Coast marathon with an impressive 5th position and 32:40 on the tough hilly course.  The time was faster than the previous week at Sydney Striders and he finished right Jeremy Horne a sub 2:30 marathon runner who finished over a minute faster at the SMH Half Marathon. The form has Vlad on target for a 2:30 marathon on the Gold Coast on July 5th. Results

  

07/06/09 Tara Prowse, 5th at Switzerland IM 70.3

Tara Prowse claimed 5th place on a tough course and cool conditions after a solid swim the limited bike and run preparations following a patella injury two weeks earlier were not ideal and despiute plenty of pain Tara managed to run though and claim 5th position.

  

06/06/09 Sydney Striders, North Head

Fifteen HERT runners lined up for the Sydney Striders with Vlad Shatrov posting the fastest HERT time at North Head to post 8th place with 33:14 over the 10km tight and twisty circuit. Chris Kemp made a return to competition with many PB's posted including Jenelle Weatherstone and Nathan Cochrane. Results

  

24/05/09 Tara Prowse 10th at St Polten IM 70.3, Austria

Tara Prowse took to the startling of her first European pro race with a strong field to contend with. The race day itself was all fun and games whith Aussie Chris McCormack finishing with a fiercly contested win with another Aussie Aaron Farlow in fifth. For Tara the day started well exiting the 2 lake swim in 5th place and showing the swim work has paid off. The bike course was super fast on the flat sections and without the equipment to match the other women Tara entered T2 some 8 minutes down. By 10km the run gap had narrowed but by 15km all of her energy for chasing had been spend and the gap to the leader opened up again.

  

17/05/09 Vlad Shatrov runs 70mins at SMH and Tara Prowse claims 5th in 78

Vlad Shatorv and Tara Prowse came away with solid PB's at the SMH Half Marathon amoungst a solid lineup from HERT. Vlad crossed the line in 18th position in a time of 70.56 and is building well into his marathon form for the Gold Coast. Tara Prowse who finished in seventh last year moved two positions closer to the podium with a 5th place overall. Results coming

  

02/05/09 HERT finished 12th at TNSW Club Championships

HERT finished a strong 12th place at the TNSW club championships, narrowly missing a top 10 result. The result was encouraging and with plenty of key performers unable to attend a top 3 position will not be out of the question for 2010. Results

  

19/04/09 Canberra Marathon - PB's

James Swaddling's crew had a great day out at the Canberra Marathon with plenty of PB's run. Race report and results here

  

05/04/09 Australian Ironman - Dave Clark wins 25-29 in 8:55 and Vlad Shatrov 4th in 30-34

A formidable show from the pros and top amaeteurs was put on for the spectators at the Port Macquarie Ironman. Dave Clark raced at the front of the age group race all day with Trent Chapman coming in off the bike with a huge lead and se about making in roads to one of the deepest pro fields seen. Clark finished second amateur in 11th position overall and a time of 8:55 to win 25-29, another Aussie title for the season and a spot on the Big Island for October. Joining him will be Vlad Shatrov who ran himelf into fourth position in 30-34. Oustanding days for the two first time Ironman athletes. Results

  

05/04/09 Challenger Triathlon series Geelong- Troy Drinan wins again

Troy Drinan carried his Australian Championship winning form over from Perth  to win 30-34 at the final round of the Challenger series. Jenni Erskine nabbed fourth position in 20-24 to secure her position in the Worlds team while Kevin Minett made the trip from Sydney and snatch 16th to improve the maths and make his team position likely. Both the mens and womens records went today, both by athletes preparing for Canberra Marathon in 3 weeks time. Results

  

22/03/09 Corporate Games Triathlon: Iain Gauld claims 3rd   

The Corporate Games is much like BRW but scaled down to about a couple of hundred people – crazy age groupers at the sharp end with all the bling and $100 corporate kit down to complete first timers at the non-pointy end on doing breast stroke and riding mountain bikes. Story

  

  

15/03/09 Troy Drinan wins Australian title in 30-34 at Perth

Melbourne triathlete, Troy Drinan won the 30-34 Australian Championships in Perth and has secured his spot in the World Championships team for September. After a season of highs and lows, Troy saved his best race for last stepping to notches up on the podium after a thrird place at the Australian Long Course championships at Huskisson in February. 08/03/09 Cronulla Triathlon - Three wins for HERT

The Sydney Water Challenge Olympic Distance Triathlon was held at Cronulla last weekend. This is also Race 5 of the nationally run Challenge Series for those that are vying for spots to represent their country at the upcoming World Championships on the Gold Coast in September. Therefore, HERT had 16 people there, most looking for more points to put in the kitty towards their campaign to make the team. Results and report

  

06/03/09 - Ironman NZ - John Marsh qualifies for Kona

John Marsh raced well to finish second in 18-24 and qualify for Kona, while Lucas Kiely claims a strong second and win hissub 11 hour bet in a time of 10:18. Results here

  

04/03/09 - Jason Hall wins category at NSW All Schools

Jason Hall claimed sixth overall and won his age category at the NSW All Schools Triathlon Championships at Penrith and has made the NSW team to contest the Australian All Schools championships in Tasmania.   

 

01/03/09 - Kurnell Sprint series:

Sally Taggart kept her unbeaten reacord alive for the season at the final round of the TNSW sprint series.  Kevin Minett was narrowly relagated to third in M35-39 as he was beaten over the line by an outstretched leg. Lise Benjamin and Cathy Verry kept the podiums busy each claiming a bronze. With the final event out of the way the team sets their sights on the Cronulla Challlenger event.   Results

22/02/09 - Huskisson Triathlon Festival: Six wins for HERT

HERT claimed fsix ins at the Huskisson Triathlon Festival taking line honours in the 1000m Ocean swim,  10km Fun run and the Australian Long Course Championships. David Clark earned his green and gold stripes. The former Forster Half Ironman winner in the elite category as an 18 year old. Results

  

15/02/09 -  Jen Weatherstone nabs second at Hobart.

While the rest of the HERT members were enjoying the torrential rain and cold weather in Sydney, Niki, Ben and I went down to Sunny Hobart town for the 4th challenge series race to represent the HERT. Results and report

 

  

09/11/08 - Port Macquarie Half IM, Prowse second

Tara Prowse picked up her biggest result to date with second place at the Port Macqurie Half Ironman. With a consistent year to date, Tara finished second Charlotte Paul, a full time triathlete and recent 11th place finisher at the Hawaiian Ironman. Chris Kemp was set for a solid result in the mens until a mechanical problem resulting from a fall in transition put an end to his day. First timers Lucas Kiely and crew also enjoyed the challenges of racing HIM distance. Results

  

09/11/08 - Robbo 13th at IM 70.3 World Championships

Tara Prowse picked up her biggest result to date with second place at the Port Macqurie Half Ironman. With a consistent year to date, Tara finished second Charlotte Paul, a full time triathlete and recent 11th place finisher at the Hawaiian

  

02/11/08 - Noosa Tri Festival, Robbo 10th elite, Drinan 3rd Opens

Some great results came in from Noosa over the weekend with Melbourne based HERT coach, Troy Drinan having a hit out and placing 3rd in the Men’s open division, while Peter Robertson used Noosa as a rundown before heading to Florida for the IM 70.3 World Champs. Great work to Nadine Reynolds, Anthony Halas, and Ian Fischl who as beginners to the triathlon scene 3 – 4 months ago have worked hard towards this as their goal race. Results

  

18/10/08 - Robbo wins NSW Long course with Prowse second.

Peter Robertson took line honours at the NSW Long Course championships ahead of Tim Berkel and Cameron Watt. Chris Kemp had been in the mix until the final lap of the run and came home in 5th spot. Tara Prowse cracked the fastest female run of the day to finish second overall, unable to bridge a large deficit after the bike. Full story and result from Forster weekend.

  

  

  

18/10/08 - Kemp wins NSW Pro Tour

Chris Kemp convincingly won the NSW Pro Tour event over the enduro format. The event featured a 200m swim, 8km ride and 4km run performed twice through. Kemp exited the water in 3rd and a fast transition sa him hit the lead in a 2 man break on the field. As the chase group ride together, Hickey continued to attack Kemp rather than work with him and eventually after numersous shut downs the paid were caught. Into the first run Kemp moved to a long lead and was never challenged again doing the second ride solo and running to victory on the final run.

  

18/10/08 - Prowse claims Australian age title

Tara Prowse was fastest female overall and took home the Australian age title in F20-24. Her fast run split was 8th best overall on the day and her overall time of 1:05 placed her 12th outright in what was a warmup event for the NSW Long Course event. Sally Taggart was a likely candidate for an Aussi title but mis calculated the number of bike laps and the hot favourite rode an extra lap, putting heself out of the medals.

  

14-17/10/08 - Gold Medals at Masters Track World Championships

Lise Benjamin's first masters track meet netted her 4 gold medals from five races with wins in the 10km points race, 500m TT, 2000m Pursuit and the Sprint. Read Lise's report.

  

12/10/08 - Podiums at Maitland

The The opening race of the season saw six podium placings at Maitland. In the middle distance event saw Sally Taggart (40-44) win the women's event outright. Kylie Elbourne and Jane Lloyd claimed 2nd and 3rd respectively in the 30-34.Grant Fuzi took honours in 40-44 with Paul McGlynn climaing 3rd. Lucas Kiley and Anthony Halas were close both claiming 4th placings in their categories while Kerri Pittman placed second in 45-49 in the club distance event. Full results here.

  

29/09/08 - Lara Boyd reports on her first IM experience

My Ironman story began in September 2007 when Steve and I devised a plan to spend the summer of 2008 in France.  It had always been his dream to live in France and ride the mountain routes of the Tour.  I was happy to share his dream. I was looking for any excuse out of work.  It also seemed the perfect opportunity for him to complete the France Ironman in Nice. Story here

  

  

22/09/08 - Tara Prowse second at Blackmoore's Half Marathon

Tara Prowse once again stood on the podium this season with a strong second place at the Blackmoore;s Half Marathon in Sydney. A strong start saw her in contention however she found the pace a little tough around the 12 km mark and slipped off the leaders pace and find her own speed and run on to the finish a mere minute from the winner. Tara ran a PB and also claimed her age category win. Full HERT results

  

14/09/08 - John Lennon's Monte Carlo experience

When I think about Monte Carlo I have visions of two sweet oval shaped honey and coconut biscuits joined by a layer of vanilla flavored cream covered with raspberry jam which at an average mass of 20.8 grams each are the heaviest biscuit available in Arnott's Assorted Cream product range. 07/09/08 - Robertson continues consistent run - 4th at Singapore 70.3

Peter Robertson continues to rebuild form and consistency with a solid 4th placed effort at the Aviva Singapore 70.3 IM. With a semi specific approach to the longer distance Robbo raced with the leaders over the swim and bike. Full story and results

  

07/09/08 - IM UK: First time Ironman athletes Lara Boyd and Santiago Sanchez

Life as a pro comes to an end for Steve and Lara Body this weekend as their training life in Provence, France over the past 6 months culminated in IM UK.With plenty of learning along the way, Lara stepped onto the big stage and became and Ironman in her first season of triathlon. It was also a first time for Santiago Sanchez. Story and results

  

03/09/08 - Monte Carlo of bust...? Martin Williams takes aim at Monaco 70.3  

It’s taken some time for HERT "elite", multi event endurance athlete Martin ‘Will’ Williams to find his groove, but he believes he’s at his peak and has recently left our shores for Europe, where, amongst swanning around the Greek Islands and attending his sister’s wedding, he will be lining up with other likeminded sports people for the grand prix of Triathlon events on 7 September in the principality of Monaco. Full story

  

30/08/08 - Andreas Tosch claims top 10 at Saalfeldon Long Course, Austria

As the European triathlon seasond raws to a close, Andreas Tosch targeted the Saalfeldon Long course event as his final race. A solid swim saw him lead out the second pack, which included eventual race winner Michael Wiess who turned to triathlon after narrowly missing the Austrian MTB Olympic team. Wiess pulled to a commanding lead on the bike leg as Andi stayed in close contact to exit T2 in 20th position. The sixth fastest run of the day moved him into 10th position with a time of 4:11:13 and a strong finish to the season.

Historically the Olympics has never been kind to the favourite - not once has the favourite in the men's or women's event taken Gold and how did the racing pan out with expectations.   

  

17/08/08 - Chris Kemp wins Yeppoon Half Ironman

Chris Kemp took overall honours and his first major victory at the season opening Yeppoon Half Ironman. With a solid field in the open division, Kemp exited the water with the leaders and rode with the front group moving into the lead without challenge on the run. Results

  

10/08/08 - Peter Robertson second at London Triathlon

Peter Robertson narrowly missed the top spot on the podium at the London triathlon after Maik Petzold of Germany held on in the sprint to the line. The result shows the benefits of his recent base training at   altitude and despite a lack of speed work the fast finishing Robertson claimed fastest run of the day with a 29:54 split for the 10km. Josh Daniels had a solid race in the Junior Elite race to finish 9th.

Well, all I can say is bring back the flat course of Busselton!!!Sunday was a pretty gruelling experience, but I actually really enjoyed it because it was such a challenge and the support on the course was totally amazing.  Not a course to set a PB on though. Story

  

Breaking records - Lara Haume and the final climb

Lance Armstrong does Alpe d’Huez in 37 minutes.  I was more interested in breaking Sheryl Crowe’s record of 1hr 37mins.  Sure, she is an aging rocker, but she looks a hell of a lot fitter than I do, and she had to have been coached by Lance.  To beat that, and in a triathlon no less, would be an amazing achievement.  I had a record to set. Sutherland to Surf - Tara Prowse picks up another prize cheque

More than 4000 enthusiasts hit the startline inlcuding Bejing bound Courntey Atkinson, for the 11km jaunt from Sutherland to Wanda Beach in what is traditionally the fine tuning event and final hitout before the City to Surf and Tara Prowse showed her form with a second place. Robbo checks in from Boulder

Peter Robertson is enjoying a sojourn to altitude staying in Boulder Colorado and enjoying the company of fellow Aussie athletes Simon Thomson and Greg Bennett. All three were all team mates at the last Olympics however they have found themselves racing for money this time round in the lucrative non drafting series. For Robbo the trip to Boulder is a chance to work on his run form at altitude performing key sessions to deliver high end run speed.
