BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON
Robertson returns to non drafting as part of 70.3 poreparation
Peter Robertson made a successful return to the non drafting triathlon program with a 5th place at the Boulder Peak triathlon in Boulder Colorado. Currently training at altitude, Robbo has settled into his base preparation for his IM 70.3 debut in Singapore in September and used the event as a return to racing and to iron out some bugs.
Speaking after the race, Robbo commented " it's amazing racing here where your local race is full of Olympians, former World Champions and up and coming athetes so to snare 5th today during a preparation phase was quite good."
The event was won by US Olympian Matt Reed with former World Champion Simon Lessing placing third followed by Brian Fleishman of the US. Robbo lost some gorund early in the swim where his goggles were dislodged and missed the front pack astheir feet slipped out of reach as he adjusted. Exiting the water with blood to his nose and face from the incident, Roob set about moving back to the front end of the field, riding with Stephen Hackett until the climb.
Reaching the climb Robbo put himself back into contention for a podium as he was riding a road bike setup which was beneficial for this part of the ride. Once onto the final fast and flat section, his position was not ideally tuned for the TT and he lost some ground from the leading group as he headed into T2.
During the run he moved through into 5th place a few hundred meters behind fellow Aussie Paul (Barney) Matthews. Happy with the days efforts Robbo settled for the 5th place and looks forward to acquiring his dedicated TT bike from GIANT once he returns from altitude. His next race will be the London triathlon on August 10.
