BUSSELTON HALF IRONMAN

18/05/2008, Sydney

Ben Webster led the charge at the Busselton Half Ironman with all six cometitors posting a PB over the distance. Competitors faced good conditions on the flat and fast course which had a field of 1300 athletes.

Webby was in the mix for a podium in 30-34, however a drafting infringement and 5 minute penalty saw his chance slip away. Not to be deterred, he psoted a great run split to come home strongly and show his form is building well for IM Switzerland in July. James Paul posted his fasted time as did George Wilson. With solid performances from the men, it has to be said our women possibly performed better with Jen Dalgliesh finding some rapid form in the last 10 days despite a hectic workload limiting her training. Jen finished in 5:00:39 while training partner Jane Lloyd came in at 5:16:46 in her first Half Ironman - not bad considering she was only racing sprint distance in February in her first season of racing.

Martine Forrsteer finished in a time of 6:28:10 which included a 10 minute stop waiting to assist another competitor after an accident on the bike and requiring medical assistance.
