Robertson 4th at Singapore 70.3
07/09/2008
Peter Robertson continues to rebuild form and consistency with a solid 4th placed effort at the Aviva Singapore 70.3 IM. With a semi specific approach to the longer distance Robbo raced with the leaders over the swim and bike and enjoyed the distance. "The conditions make it a really exciting place to race in, the swim leg was beautiful and the bike leg was magnificent,” commented Robbo who will consider adding it to his event line up for 2009 as it switches to March 22.
" It was one of the closest finishes on the Ironman 70.3 circuit this year with Simon Thompson has edging out Kiwi pre-race favourite Terenzo Bozzone by a mere 15 seconds to win the Aviva Ironman 70.3 Singapore in a time of 3:55:40. Thommo and Bezzone raced awesome and it was good to be in there with them for so long but they made the break on the run. Both guys were in big form and the men to beat and I'm looking forward to racing them in November."
" Coming in my aim was to claim a top five position and secure my starting position for the IM 70.3 World Championships which I've done. It's a good result. I've been toying with the idea of longer racing and qualifying for Florida. Training to date has just been about getting back to training and racing consistently. I didn't need to be at my best right now and it highlights my base fitness is good and I'm looking forward to more racing ahead.
With the exception of the Hyvee ITU World Cup where Robertson had a virus, he's not finished outside of the top five in a race since April. From here Robertson heads back to his Sydney training base to being specific preparations for the 70.3 World Championships in Florida on November 9.
