YEPPOON HALF IRONMAN

17/08/2008

Chris Kemp took overall honours and his first major victory at the season opening Yeppoon Half Ironman. With a solid field in the open division, Kemp exited the water with the leaders and rode with the front group to put himself in contention for the run. The flat 3 lap run course would not be so easy for the front runners after a 2:16 bike split and Kemp moved into the lead on the first lap and surged out to extend the lead on lap two setting up the win. Tara Prowse finished sixth in the open women's, steadily improving in her second Half Ironman event.

The team took a few casualties with Julia Rutsch and Jenni Erskine falling ill the week before. Troy Drinan, a cracked bike frame made the usually strong bike rider struggle to stay with the front group although still in contention for a top 10 he rolled an ankle at a water station forcing him out.
